a Few ways for Artists to make money.

How can you make money from your art?

There are many answers to this question. The right one is the one that suits you best. In my opinion it was easier before the pandemic to make art and sell local, but due to job losses and economic conditions it's much harder now. This is a tough time but also the motivation I needed to expand my knowledge. I started looking at ways for an artist to make money online.

My first project was to create or publish a book on Amazon KDP. This was a whole new learning process for me, but if you already know how to use some programs you may be well on your way. Many people are very successful with selling their books on Amazon. To be honest it takes time and you need to put in the effort. Some books sell better than others and once you know which ones are more successful you can focus more on that niche. It's very important to promote your books because there are already so many books on Amazon which makes it harder for buyers to notice your book. Amazon can help you with your advertising and you can also self promote your book on social media. The more quality books you can publish the better.

My second project was to sell prints of my artworks. I did a lot of research on this and decided to give it a try. There are many platforms where you can sell prints of your artwork but I specifically searched for one that is free. I do not expect to generate a lot from this but every bit could help. I decided to go with Artpal. The prints seems like good quality and they give your customers the option between framed or canvas prints. Your customers can also buy just the print and frame it themselves. On Artpal you may also sell your original artwork. The setup was easy and enjoyable. There are one other platform that got my attention and also sells prints of artworks. I will first research it more to give my input. Here's a link below to Artpal if you are interested to sell prints of your art: Artpal Sell your Art

Then the last platform is my favourite so far Print on demand... You make the designs and  position it on the available products and they sell it. You dont handle any orders and shipping you just do the designs. The more designs you have the better. No inventory needed and the best part is that it's free. There are many different platforms for you to choose from. It's best to choose one that suits you. For me it was Redbubble. I have tried some others but liked Redbubble more. They are very user friendly and as soon as you have uploaded your artworks you can start to sell. You can also try Merch by Amazon but you have to get accepted by them first. Not everyone gets accepted, but If you do go for it. Like they say don't throw all your eggs in one basket.

It's best to test out everything you can and then decide what works best for you. There are many other ways for Artists to make money online I have only mentioned a few that I have done. I will keep on trying new ways and share my thoughts and experiences with you. It's not to say that you will generate an income from any of these but it's worth a shot. Like any business it takes time to build up these things and you certainly won't get rich over night.

Artist Colored Pencil Chart

Every Artist needs a Swatchbook! When you're an Art Supply addict like me and you have many pencil sets in your collection you may need to do swatches to keep track of all the colors of each set.  With swatches to go back to it makes your next artwork just easier. It's very frustrating to search for that one color you just had. And also it makes it a little easier to just take a peek and see what colors would be perfect. So I decided to make a swatches book. This way we can take this book along and easily find the best colors for our new artwork.  No more loose paper swatches laying around.  Buy my book here :  Artist Colored Pencil Chart

Derwent Inktense Pencils

Derwent Inktense Pencils. These pencils are very unique...They are watersoluble but definitely not like other watersoluble pencils. The reason I say they aren't the same as the rest is because once you've activated them with water they can't be re-activated. This means you can add layer over layer over layer. Just make sure you fully activate them because if there are still some dry pigment left they may smear or get activated when you do the next layer. The Derwent Inktense pencils are very vibrant. The colors in this range is lovely. The biggest set they come in is 72 colors. This may not sound like a lot of colors but the nice thing about these pencils are you can mix your colors. This also allows you to purchase a smaller set and still make beautiful artworks. You can mix them dry or wet but the magic does not end here. You can use these pencils on material and a lot of other surfaces aswell. Derwent also made Derwent Inktense Ink Blocks and these you can use as paint

Faber-Castell Polychromos. Are they worth it?

Are these pencils really worth the money?  Yes, they are expensive but not without reason. They are lightfast and of excellent quality. Every Artist knows how important it is to use lightfast pencils so that your artwork does not fade away in time. If a client buys an artwork from you and the colors starts to fade you won't have a very happy client. Colored pencil art is very time consuming and you also do not want your hard work to fade after a while.  Faber-Castell is a German Company founded in 1761 and till this day this company provide many artists with top quality art supplies from student to professional.  The Faber-Castell Polychromos have a round barrel of 8mm and a 3.8mm core. They sit well in your hand and are very nice to work with. These pencils are oil based and highly pigmented. The Faber-Castell Polychromos comes in various set sizes and they are also available in open stock. The nice thing about pencils being available in open stock is that you can fill your set an
